Sweetie 062 passed over the Rainbow Bridge September 16, 2013.
- Sweetie came into my life about 7 years ago. She was sent to SCR from an all breed rescue. They felt that she needed someone with Cocker experience. We soon learned that she was heartworm positive. Since she was shaved down when she came in we did not have to worry about grooming for a while. It didn’t take too much longer to realize that Sweetie was nearly impossible to groom and therefore unadoptable.. I had actually grown quite fond of her and really felt that she was not a vicious dog but just needed some time. ,. I chose to adopt her myself. My groomer can attest to the fact that the grooming never got much better. It was always an adventure. Grooming began a two person job. Through all of that I know that Sweetie loved me and I loved her. In a year or so she became blind . Because of glaucoma she lost one eye. There is nothing that would slow this little girl down. She had already passed her 16th birthday and it appeared she would live forever. After all this time she got an ear infection. Because of her temperament it was impossible to treat it.. I knew that it would not be very long and she probably would be in terrible pain. Today I had to make the decision to end her life. It was not easy because she enjoyed every minute of every day.. I will miss her terribly.
Sweetie [ADOPTED NOVEMBER 1] is a senior girl who has very few options. She came into rescue over a year ago. She came from a southern Illinois shelter where they felt she would be difficult to adopt and should go to a breed rescue. At that time she was heartworm positive. We treated the heartworm and she is now negative. That was just the beginning of Sweeties problems. She is completely blind in one eye and is somewhat fearful of anything she can't see. For that reason she cannot go to a home with children or novice owners. She is difficult to groom for the same reason. Once Sweetie gets to know you, she is a wonderful, loving dog but it will need an owner with a tremendous amount of patience.
